“And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live.”
- Ezekiel 16:6
Greetings in the Lord beloved brethren, and those also that are yet without the fold of our beautiful good Shepherd, Jesus Christ. Five weeks ago the Lord was pleased to send me to South Africa with another dear brother of ours, Vincent Piater. The five weeks we spent there were trying times, but we rejoiced all the while in the hope that we have laid up in heaven. Men may steal that which we have laid up here on earth, but that which is laid up in heaven is secure and sure. Christian, no man on earth or Devil in hell can touch the treasure that awaits you there. We have reason indeed to shout our Hallelujah’s! Amen.
We were able to preach a few times while there and were daily about the ministry of evangelism. The Lord was daily opening doors of opportunity for us. One instance, while in Durban, we went down to the beach where myriads of people were flooding the boardwalk, beaches and piers. The majority of people were Zulu’s who primarily speak poor English. But at seeing the multitudes of people and beholding there ungodly behavior my heart was overwhelmed within me to share the good news – that there is a God in heaven who is of purer eyes than to behold iniquity and who will judge sin wherever it is found on the last day, but who, in love for mankind, was moved in compassion to send his own Son to seek and save that which was lost; nevertheless, according to the scriptures God’s Son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who was blameless and pure, suffered a wicked man’s death on a cross, thus taking on himself the curse- the curse that from the beginning was imposing upon all men because of sin, DEATH – and endured the full weight of God’s just wrath… He was laid in the tomb and after three days was resurrected from the dead by the Holy Spirit of God, was witnessed by above 500 persons and then ascended to the right-hand of God- where he now sits till the day when he will come to the earth again to judge the quick and the dead. Jesus, therefore, calls us to follow him: firstly, to the cross in death to this world (personal ambitions, hopes, dreams and desires, this world’s wealth, lust, hatred, unforgiveness, adultery, etc.); and secondly, in the resurrection (wherein your dead life is quickened [made alive] by the Holy Spirit of God, so that you are able to walk in newness of life instead of the deeds of the old man). The freedom Christ purchased us on the cross is not merely a “get out of hell free” card, but freedom also from sin, shame, guilt and condemnation and all that entails... So I told the Lord, “Father, these Zulu people need to hear the gospel, and I don’t see any Zulu man preparing to preach. Lord, these people know more English than I know Zulu, so I will preach in English and you’ll take care of the rest. In Jesus’ name, amen.” My belief is that God is searching this whole earth for a man that will stand boldly and proclaim exactly what the Lord is saying without any mixture. No personal motives or agenda- no M.O. Just the pure unadulterated word of God. And I believe there are very few in this world that meet these requirements. But I live my life and preach with this always in mind… so I stood up to preach. I was trusting the Lord completely to honour his Word as I, his servant, was preparing to proclaim it. Just as I stood up on a little retaining wall, with Bible in hand, between the boardwalk and the beach I looked out over the sea of people. Then I noticed brother Vincent begin talking to someone just beside me, so I looked down at him and he looked up at me and told me, “I am born again and I speak Zulu.” I asked him if he had ever translated before and he answered the negative. So I told him that was great and this would be a first for us both.
For the next 45 min he faithfully and expressively interpreted what I would preach in English, into the language of the people there. Not a few were effected that day by the preaching of the gospel. Praise the Lord.
“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.”
- Habakkuk 3:17,18
We praise the Lord in all circumstances, whether good or bad. Ryan, Sean and I are back together again in Dallas with brother Jesse Morris and his beautiful wife Lindsay. We will be updating our schedule soon, Lord willing. We have also added a new preacher, Rolfe Barnard, and seven of his sermons to our “Resource” page. Please listen to them.
Brethren, pray for us.
In Christ,
Jake
